History & heritage
The Renaissance castle, built by Pierre de Glandevès between 1510 and 1530, now houses the town hall and boasts a monumental spiral staircase. Saint-Auban developed into a workers’ town centred around its chemical plant, owned by the Arkema Group. The nearby lake was created by the Escale Dam, which was completed in 1963.
