Perched at an altitude of over 1,100 metres above the lakes of Chaudanne and Castillon, Demandolx offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Verdon.
History & heritage
First mentioned as early as the 11th century (in the *Life of Saint Isarn*) and inhabited since protohistoric times (oppida and dolmens), Demandolx had its *castrum* on a rocky outcrop overlooking the upper Verdon. The dams have flooded part of its countryside; the Romanesque Chapel of Saint-Michel (12th century), the village’s landmark, still overlooks the lakes.
Geography & setting
Perched on the mountainside, with the Teillon and the Crémon towering above it, Demandolx overlooks the Chaudanne and Castillon reservoirs, high above the Verdon valley.
