History & heritage
The healing properties of its sulphurous waters were already known in ancient times. In the heart of the village, the Templar Castle (12th–13th centuries), formerly owned by the Knights Templar and later by the Counts of Provence, overlooks the ancient alleyways. The town’s reputation as a spa resort, revived in the 19th century, has shaped the modern town, which is now one of the region’s leading spa resorts.
