Oppedette is a well-preserved hilltop village in the Luberon, famous for its spectacular gorges carved out by the Calavon, a wild and magnificent natural site.
History & heritage
Inhabited since prehistoric times, the village takes its name from an ancient oppidum situated on the rocky outcrop overlooking the gorges. Its old stone village, which has been remarkably restored, retains all its Provençal character.
Geography & setting
Perched above the Oppedette Gorges, the village overlooks the Calavon Canyon, which is several kilometres long and over a hundred metres deep. Cliffs, caves and natural bridges make up a spectacular rocky landscape to the north of the Luberon Regional Nature Park.
