History & heritage
Peyruis experienced a real boom in the Middle Ages centred on a feudal fortress, the ruins of which still overlook the village from the hilltop. Its church still houses 17th-century stained-glass windows and 15th-century Gothic furnishings, whilst the Saint-Roch Chapel was built in 1720, funded by public subscription, to protect the village from the plague that was ravaging Marseille.
