A tiny village on the banks of the Asse, Senez is home to an ancient Romanesque cathedral, a legacy of a bishopric dating back more than a thousand years.
History & heritage
Established as a bishopric from the 5th century until the Concordat of 1801, Senez still boasts its former cathedral, Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, a Romanesque building dating from the 12thand 13th centuries, listed as a Historic Monument, rich in tapestries from Flanders and Aubusson, 16th-century choir stalls and a 17th-century sundial. Recent excavations there have revealed an early Christian church and wall paintings.
